Hi neighbors! I am so excited to be running for North Bay Village mayor. I want to continue the incredible progress that’s been made under the leadership of Mayor Brent Latham, and I’m hoping you’ll promote me to fill his shoes. I currently serve as the Treasure Island commissioner and consider it a privilege and a blessing to be in this position. I am incredibly dedicated to our village and spend long hours working on your behalf. I am so passionate about this paradise we call home, and I want to continue serving and deepen my commitment to our community.

When I was elected in 2020, it was the height of the pandemic and knocking on doors wasn’t really possible. But now it is! And I’m so excited to meet all of you on this journey.

I live on Treasure Island with my lab/husky mix Paloma. Maybe you’ve seen us walking around the neighborhood, or at the dog park. I’ve lived in my condo here since 2017 and was fortunate to be able to buy it in 2020. Being a dog owner, I walk around NBV quite a lot. So pedestrian safety and quality of life issues (speeding cars, people who don’t pick up after their dogs, litter, sidewalks, etc.) are big issues for me.

I was born and raised in South Florida. My dad was a judge, and my mom was an editor at the Miami Herald. I have three sisters and two brothers. My parents gave me a deep sense of value in community engagement and public service, and that’s what first inspired me to get involved in North Bay Village. When Mayor Latham was elected, he and Vice Mayor Marvin Wilmoth recruited me to join the Sustainability and Resilience Task Force. I decided to run for office because I didn’t think we were doing enough to address sea level rise and our aging infrastructure.

I graduated from the George Washington University in 2007, worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and then came home and got my law degree from the University of Miami in 2016. In addition to serving as the Treasure Island commissioner, I am a lawyer specializing in land use and zoning.

I’d love to get to know you and hear about what matters to you. Please send me an email or shoot me a text message so we can connect. (954) 290-8600 is my personal cell. My email address is Rachel.streitfeld@gmail.com.
